Cocktails and Mocktails– A Baby Party

I want to start by saying thank you so much to everyone who left such lovely and supportive comments on the blog and Instagram regarding The One Room Challenge Reveal. Craig and I really appreciate all the love! It meant so much to me to hear from my readers and even some bloggers/designers I really admire.

Now on to today’s post:

Since finding out we were pregnant I knew I wanted to have some sort of celebration for the new little one. I knew I didn’t want a traditional shower like the first time around but just have friends over for a small gathering- something sophisticated and intimate where the adults could really enjoy the night sans kiddos. I decided the best route to go was to have a cocktail party- mocktails in my case. I searched endlessly for a location that could accommodate our request but no restaurant was willing to do it or if they were, it was going to cost a small fortune.

I do love to entertain at our house but I knew that I wasn’t going to have the energy I normally do nor did I want my husband to kill himself cooking and cleaning up like he usually does either.We decided it would be best (and more fiscally responsible- can you tell I am married to an Accountant?) to host the party at our house despite the challenges it would present. Hire Staff:

We both agreed that in order to have a good time and enjoy the party ourselves, that cater waiters were in order. This didn’t mean we hired staff that envies Downton Abbey. We hired two women who did it all. They heated and served food, refilled drinks and made sure everyone (including us) were happy and full. Best decision ever. Contact me if you need their number. They were awesome.

Atmosphere is everything:

I wanted a specific mood for the party. That meant having gorgeous floral arrangements and candles. The party was mainly held in the dining room, den and living room. All I needed to do was focus on those rooms. Simple.

Thank you to my wonderful florist who has done every event since our wedding. She is brilliant!

We cleared out the dining room and added cocktail tables with tea lights. Again, so simple.

Yummy food:

We contacted Elegant Eating and I’m so glad we did. They were able to accommodate the type of food we were looking for and everything was delicious. Wish I had taken pictures because their presentation was on point and made the event that much more special.

This was my husband Craig’s department. We had an assortment of wines and sparkling wines and beers and scotch- all the good stuff I couldn’t have- although I did have a glass of Proseco- it was pink and perfect and really really good. Since we had 5 pregnant girls there, I wanted to do something fun for them so I picked a recipe from Pinterest and made a little something special.

A little something pretty to wear:

Being pregnant, you don’t always feel your best but with a little extra effort and a great little black dress it can be done. When I first saw this dress on ASOS, I knew it would be amazing for the occasion. With a little accessorizing courtesy of my bestie Dawn, the dress was pregnancy perfection. Fresh highlights, a blow out and long (Kardashian long) lashes completed the look (love me some lashes).
