You Guys! It’s week 5 already! First and foremost I would like to dedicate this post to my Abuela, who would have turned 90 today. Missing her today and everyday since her passing in February. This hung in her kitchen for like ever and ever. I may not be the best cook but I could offer the best take out.☺️
Boy last week with the kids being off from school did not help matters. Entertaining them and trying to get things done was not an easy feat. I would like to put a petition in that Spring Holiday Break should never coincide with One Room Challenge. Ever.
So welcome to WEEK 5!
Let there be light! I am so thrilled to have new lighting in the kitchen that’s functional and pretty. The track lighting that was in the house looked old and dingy because they were white, so I decided to give them an update and replace them with these stunners. (You’ll have to check out my Instagram for a sneak peek of them installed.)
They are very modern which I think pairs nicely with the super modern hardware.
Oh the hardware… it is so freaking cool. I had reached out to Liberty Hardware again for a collaboration since Caitlin, my rep, was so super helpful the last time around with a project I did last spring. I wanted something that was modern that I hadn’t ever really seen before. I came upon these guys and instantly fell hard for them.
Liberty Hardware Modern Edge Cabinetry Pull
When they arrived, they were just what I had envisioned with their beautiful matte black finish. Only problem was that their intended use or shall I say positioning was not what I was going for. They were supposed to be used flush inside the drawer and not mounted like a normal piece of cabinetry hardware. Sort of like this:

The way they were supposed to go just looked like a filing cabinet (especially on the lower drawers) so I began taping them up onto the cabinets to see if my vision would work and low and behold it totally rocked my world. These are installed!
Breaking the rules. After all that’s what good design is sometimes.
So thanks to Liberty Hardware for providing these awesome drawer pulls and the soon to be arriving switch covers!
The past weekend saw a lot of progress. We finished up the grouting and painted the ceiling and I started on some of the wall. Just that little white paint ( I used Chantilly Lace from Benjamin Moore) has made such a difference in the brightness of the kitchen even with the dark blue cabinets and the black counters. It’s such a good balance!
Not much got done this week with the exception of Monday were I was stripping and scraping off 50 years worth of varnish on my mother in law’s kitchen table that she bequethed to us. I have been lazy with this One Room Challenge stuff and binge watching Chambers on Netflix instead. But, being true to myself, I work very well under pressure- just ask my college professors!
So left to do before Monday’s photoshoot is:
Caulk any unsightly gaps where our stupid uneven walls are
Paint the kick plates under the cabinets
Refinish the kitchen table
Paint the rest of the kitchen (just two walls)
Paint the one window and the back door
Install garbage system (rig something up)
And… accessorize- my most favorite part of this whole thing
It’s gonna get done! There isn’t much to do if I can muster up the motivation and stay off Netflix.
As always, please check out the 20 featured designers by clicking here. And my fellow Guest Participants here. Give them all some love! Everyone is doing a great job so far and I’m sure could use the extra cheering on!
And if you want to learn about the One Room Challenge in general, please check it out here.
Thanks Guys.
PS: I started my diet. Well not really a diet. No crazy fasting or putting butter in my coffee- yuck. Just eating less calories and better foods. So thinking of this as the new 6 week challenge and beyond.
