Welcome to week 2 of the One Room Challenge Guest Participant post. If you missed week one and my plans for the kitchen, please click here.
A huge thank you to my dad who came over to help and to teach me to tile. You see, my dad is a master do it yourselfer. Yes, before it was cool to DIY, my dad has been doing it forever. I can’t recall a time I ever saw a handy man (other than maybe a plumber) at our house. My dad did it all. Mechanic work too!
So some of the backsplash got done yesterday. More to come today! (It’s actually more than just the backsplash. The tile will be going up the wall behind the stove and around the back door.) You see, both my father and I are perfectionists ( I think I am a touch more so) and with that, came extra time to ensure things looked correct and where measured and cut properly. I am pretty pleased with how it’s coming a long so far. Truth be told however, I do not love tiling. From the screech of the tile cutter starting up to the shriek of the blade cutting through the porcelain oh and all the tile adhesive that I’ve been getting on my fingers. Now, now, I don’t mind getting dirty and all that jazz but there is something about this glue that just makes my skin ache when scrubbing it off. Oh well, a small price to pay for this gorgeousness and some quality bonding time with dear old dad.
Still on my to do list:
Finish tiling (obviously)
Install track lighting and chandelier
Paint kick plates
Fashion some sort of garbage system hidden into the empty cabinet space (see above photo)
Finish adding hardware to the upper cabinets
Paint the rest of the kitchen
Style
Photoshoot
All in all it doesn’t seem like that much. Totally doable!
So that’s my update for this week. Short and sweet. Please check out the 20 featured designers by clicking here. And my fellow Guest Participants here. Give them all some love! And if you want to learn about the One Room Challenge in general, please check it out here. It’s a truly exciting event for us designers and design enthusiasts.

This kitchen is going to be stunning! Can’t wait to see it all completed
