Hey guys! It’s been a while for sure. Happy 2019. Thank God for a new year. 2018 was a rough one for sure for my family and Craig’s as well. I’m happy to see it behind me.
Since about September I’ve been craving change. I’ve had a list of things I wanted to do and things I wanted to change but just couldn’t implement anything. Not sure why. Maybe it was part laziness, part fear, but whatever it was, seems to have subsided and I’m committed whole heartedly to making some changes (maybe not all the ones I had hoped for- but some). So yes. New Year New Me bullshit coming full force.
For a while now, I’ve been following the Instagram account of Katie @whatkatefinds. Not only is she fun to watch but she has some really practical advice and recommendations for style and beauty (hello Glotion!). In 2018, she did a “Year of Simple” and it seemed to be doable for me- for anyone really. She took something she wanted to do and did it for a month.
Here are some of the things on her list:
Health and Fitness
No Buy
De-Clutter
Phone detox
Experience deeper gratitude
I love all those ideas and so I tried a No-Buy November. It wasn’t as difficult as I had expected. I think I slipped up the first day (insert forehead slap here) at CVS getting some Halloween decor that was on clearance but after that, it was nothing I didn’t need for a month. No new shoes, bags, accessories, make-up etc. By the end of November, I was feeling good about it and ready to get all the Christmas shopping done. My no buy almost carried over into December because I really didn’t get anything for myself like I normally would that time of year. So yay.
January is here and so I’m doing a de-clutter month. I have finished the kitchen and man does it feel good. Over the weekend, Craig and I started the major task of decluttering the attic. While we got most of it done, it now needs to be organized- something I’ll tackle at a later date. Not ideal, but at least a lot of stuff was cleared out. My poor garbage men. 5 large bags and many many boxes.
In addition to decluttering, I am doing a drink more water month and am hoping it’s a habit that will stick for life. I’ve never been a big drinker and usually only drink when thirsty. So far I’ve been doing pretty well with it. I got a glass water bottle with a silicone sleeve. I’m weird. I hate the taste of reusable plastic bottles and cups. So I found something that worked for me. And I think that’s the trick about starting a new habit, finding something that works for you. It’s the easiest way to success- for me anyway.
So that’s that. I hope to blog more in the new year as well. But for now, find me on Instagram. I love to story- so if you love seeing my face check it out! Thanks Guys.
